Overview
Beerpong is a non-competitive skillful drinking game where the opponents play ping pong attempting to hit the ball into their opponents cup resulting in a splork. This game is way better than that Beirut bullshit those colleges kids play.
History
Nittany Valley is credited with bringing beerpong to the hash.
Rules
These are the Nittany Valley House Rules.
Small Notes: if possible play should be conducted on 4x8' sized table (directions to build one can be found here), 16oz red cups are considered regulation cups and fair play, singles place cups centered and then 1 1/2 paddles from edge of table, doubles place cups at corner a paddle in each direction.
- Beerpong is a friendly game, AGGRESSIVE play is charged with a drink!
- Beerpong is a team sport, when one person drinks, both people drink!
- If a referee is present, they have the last word on who drinks.
- Points are scored in drinks, a point is scored when the ball bounces twice or out of play, or hits someone's glass.
- If the ball bounces twice, or out of play, 1 drink.
- If the ball hits the cup, 1 drink.
- If the ball hits the rim of the cup, 2 drinks.
- If the ball goes into the cup, "A splork!", the remaining beer must be consumed, but a "throw-back" is permitted by the consumer at the glass of the scorer. If no one is waiting in the cue to play, 4 sips may replace the chug.
- When a player has no beer left, they are out. Referees should form a que to decide who goes in next.
- If one is caught refilling their cup during play, they are automatically ejected. However, if during doubles a newly entering player decides to share some beer with the remaining player on a given side, that is considered "Conservation of Sips" i.e. the total sips on that side has not changed and is allowed.
- If the ball hits the cup on the serve, the penalty is the same as the score would have been (i.e. side = 1 drink, rim = 2 drinks, splork = chug).
- A ball is playable until it has bounced twice on a side or out of play, potential drinks carry progressively until a side loses the point, when that team drinks the accumulated total of drinks.
- All arguments result in a social!
- Playing the net is allowed and not considered aggressive, however your elbow must be touching the table at all times. If the ball is contacted while your elbow is elevated, play stops and 1 drink is given to the team that committed the foul.
- Courtesy Shots should always be attempted to keep ball in play. Attempts to Courtesy cannot be punished, however a successful Courtesy Shot carries one drink.
- If a dog is present, then the Dog rule is in effect. If a dog is able to get the ball prior to a player, that side drinks from which the ball was retrieved. If the dog steals the ball from the air while still in play the dog owner drinks.
- No Whining! Whining is charged with 1 drink.
- Cups of opponents must be in the circles prior to serving.
- Shots bouncing off BEER guts are legal and do not count as a bounce.
- If a shot is going to miss the opponent's side, but is so easy to get that a Courtesy Shot should be automatic, but is not attempted, a Lack-of-Courtesy is charged to the guilty party with a drink.
- If at any time the players or referees (if present) lose track of drinks due to complication of accounting, a social is called and all drink 1.
- If at any time a player knocks over their own cup, they must refill it completely and drink its entirety. At the very least, they are out!
- If the ball bounces off a cup back onto the other side without bouncing twice or more, the ball is still in play and carries 1 drink.
- Four paddle hits in the air by opposing teams is a social.
- If a ball hits 2 cups during a score the total drinks double.
- NO GOALTENDING!
- No surrogate cups (if used drinks are doubled!)
- If there are two referees and they do not agree on a call then the referees drink.
- If a spectator is accidentally hit with a paddle, the spectator drinks.
- One cannot start at the net for net play, only after service can one advance to the net.
- Ignorance is no excuse!
- No Shenanigans!
- If the balls hits the overhead light, social.
- No Gloating.
- No passive-aggressive shots.
- If someone tips their cup, loses beer, but doesn't completely knock it over, they must take a sip.
- House rules regarding physical space are allowed and must be observed. (e.g. shots off walls, angled ceilings, being allowed etc.)
